Position Overview: Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of nutritional services and information for all WIC program clients. Provide nutrition assessment counseling and education for parents and children.
1. Education: Must meet state and federal CPA requirements: Registered Dietitian, Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, Registered Nurse, etc.
2. Training: As required for the position.
3. Certification/Licenses: N/A
4. Work Experience: Three years’ experience in providing client or patient teaching and counseling in related public health nutrition areas as well as experience with the WIC program and the WIC eligible population.
Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position may be considered at the discretion of the CEO.
5. Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation throughout the workday.
6. Basic Skills: Excellent reading, mathematical, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use computers, Microsoft Office platforms and databased computer software programs. Ability to organize, present and facilitate trainings.
7. Problem solving, Decision Making and Interpersonal Skills: Independent judgement to complete routine tasks. Establish and maintain positive relationships with people of all economic levels, cultures and capabilities. Ability to prioritize and make quick decision in a high-pressure, rapid-paced environment. Must be able to promote teamwork, participate as a team member with other agency staff and as part of interagency teams.
8. Physical and Mental Capabilities: Ability to work on short and long-term projects. Ability to work effectively under a variety of stressful situations. Ability to cope with changing focus to meet program needs. Ability to travel on short notice. Ability to work with adults, infants, and small children. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Submit all required and requested reports and paperwork per program procedures.
2. Share responsibility for promoting the WIC Program within the Agency and the community.
3. Represent Agency in a professional and positive manner in all settings.
4. Provide input and assistance for grant writing as requested.
5. Perform clerical tasks to determine WIC eligibility according to approved policies and procedures.
6. Perform clinical tasks (hemoglobin, lead, heights, weights, head circumference measurements) for WIC participants per established policies and procedures.
7. Conducts nutrition screening, assessment and counseling.
8. Prepare and Conduct classes in breastfeeding or nutrition.
9. Self-starter with ability to work independently and as a team member.
10. Prescribe food package benefits with approvals as needed.
11. Assist in the development and implementation of the nutrition education curriculum for the WIC program.
12. Promote and support breastfeeding.
13. May be required to give nutrition counseling to high-risk program participants.
14. Be available for other job-related tasks as requested by supervisor.
15. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in daily activities.
16. Cooperate with all staff in a team approach.
17. Participate in team meetings and conferences with appropriate staff as required by supervisor.
18. Know and function in accordance with WIC standards and all CAA Personnel Policies and Procedures.
