President-Elect

Mark Thiesmeyer Hook, MPH, RD, ACE-CPT

After 25+ years running companies, you learn that you can only accomplish so much on your own. Big dreams require a lot of talented people working as a team for a common vision. I dream about changing the overall health of Michigan. My strengths as a leader are building cohesive teams, communication and public relations.

Secretary Treasurer-Elect

Kari Barden, RDN

I am an organized and efficient leader who believes in leading by example. I love being part of a team and helping others to develop and grow their skillsets. I have been part of the board of directors for the last two years and have had the opportunity to learn about our mission and the positive impact we can have on the profession. I would love to be able to continue encouraging others to get involved, and advocate for the field of dietetics through an elected position on the board for the 2022-2023 year.

Jessica Corwin, MPH, RDN, CHWC

I would love to serve as your newest Secretary-Treasurer! I am an experienced leader, previously serving as President of the Dietitians of West Michigan, with a heart for building up other RDNs. Prior to this position, I was a student liaison to our State Board, then Assistant to the At Large Director of Membership, PR Committee Officer, before finally serving as the Director of Marketing and PR. My performance record and relationships built within each role, is evidence I am a dependable, decisive and detail-oriented leader who is more than capable of fulfilling the position of secretary well.

Olivia Foote, RDN

As a passionate Registered Dietitian, I am eager to take on new responsibility to represent my dietetic community. My strong communication, analytical decision making, and leadership skills make me an excellent candidate for the Secretary-Treasurer Elect position on the Michigan Academy board of directors. I will lead with passion and drive to support our dietetic profession in Michigan.

Lorraine Bonkowski, RDN

As a member of an interdisciplinary team in my current work, I practice communication and teamwork on a daily basis, important skills needed for this position. When necessary, I also am a strong independent worker. I greatly value attention to detail, organization, and time management. In addition, I strive to always bring a positive and professional attitude in any situation.

Julie Orth, MS, RDN, CSP

I’m dedicated to improving our profession by connecting with dietitians from all areas of practice, listening, and encouraging professionals and students to achieve their professional goals, as well as encourage involvement in the Academy at all levels including local and state as they are able to serve.

Nominating Committee Member

Michele Nikolai, MS, RDN

Some strengths I will bring to the nominating committee are my familiarity with the Academy process from my work as our newsletter director and MI affiliate delegate my broad network of peer connections, and my organizational skills. Another skill that I will bring is candidate review and selection for positions and awards. Identifying the best fit for people and positions have been integral parts of my roles as a clinical nutrition manager, and as a member of the MSU dietetic intern selection and program admission committees.

Karen Schmitz, PhD, RDN

In my role as an educator, I aim to mentor students to become ethical, professional leaders in the field of nutrition and dietetics.  As a member of the Nominating Committee, I would look for candidates with strong professional ethics for leadership positions.

Sara Tutor, MS, RDN, CLC

I am the Associate Director of Patient Food Service at Michigan Medicine and also a Realtor at Signature Sotheby’s International Realty. I have over ten years of experience in managerial and leadership roles and have served on the MiAND Nominating Committee in 2019 and volunteered for the Membership Committee in 2015.

Erika R. Chanderraj, MPH, RDN

Serving as a vice president for a small non-profit, I understand the importance of meeting minutes and routine follow up with agenda items. I understand that communication within a leadership team is essential to accomplish goals. As a co-chair member with Student Advocates for Nutrition student organization at the University of Michigan, I engaged members by organizing activities and sharing updates via monthly newsletters. I have also had the pleasure of co-managing larger projects, such an affordable housing public education campaign in Washtenaw County and a youth activities committee for the 2016 Local Food Summit in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Olivia Ford, PhD, MPH, RD

Thank you for reading my bio. I have held managerial/leadership positions in the food service industry as well as in academia. I am currently an Associate Professor and Program Director for the coordinated program in Dietetics at Eastern Michigan University. As a Program Director I work in a leadership role with students, faculty, and administration. I am passionate about educating future dietitians and advocating for the dietetics profession. Additionally, I am dedicated to working towards increased diversity, equity, and inclusion in dietetics education and the field of dietetics.

Tina Miller, MS, RDN, FAND

Throughout my career I have been passionate about advancing the profession of dietetics and have served on many MiAND board committees in various roles. Serving as a member of MNDI supports one of my core values, the education and mentoring of future dietetics leaders.

Megan Radamaker, MPH, RD

I was a founding board member and treasurer for the organization “NutriWayne” at Wayne State University. As an AmeriCorps working for the Cooking Matters program, I took initiative to manage a grant and pilot a unique style of classes at sites with barriers in access to traditional classes. I served as the Student Representative with the Minnesota Public Health Association, while completing my MPH, and was part of their annual conference planning committee focusing on health equity. At the Chesterfield Veterans home, I take initiative to improve care for our Veterans.
